WHAT IS TEA: Tea specifically refers to the plant Camelia Sinensis commonly known varieties of which include black tea, green tea, bancha, white tea, Matcha, kukicha etc. (to name a few). These varieties all come from the same plant but they differ mainly in the way they are dried or what part of the leaf or twig they come from. Neekoo currently markets High Mountain Green and Black Teas. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BLACK TEA AND GREEN TEA: Black tea goes through a short period (few hours) of fermentation in a humidity controlled room while green tea skips that step. That’s it. WHY DRINK TEA: Good tea tastes good! Good tea has a beautiful colour and Neekoo Tea smells good too. Tea helps metabolism, and both green tea and black tea are good sources of anti-oxidants. In fact 5 cups a day of either of them can be said to equal 2 fruit servings in anti- oxidant value. Tea is low in caffeine and loose tea is even lower than bag tea. Green tea has a type of anti-oxidant called Polyphenon that is being sold for weight loss as well as for boosting the immune system to fight off cancer. The anti-oxidants in black tea are currently being studied for their ability to reduce cholesterol oxidation and for their cardiovascular protective properties.
HOW TO PREPARE BLACK TEA Black tea requires a warmed tea pot. Boiling hot water must be poured over the tea leaves. Then it needs 5 minutes or more of steeping under a cozy or over low heat. NEVER boil tea and don’t let it sit in hot water for longer than a couple of hours. The acids in tea leaves will leach out and make your tea taste and smell bad.
Did you know that the sailors who drank tea on those long voyages in the 1700’s did not suffer from the fatal scurvy disease? Scurvy is caused by a complete lack of anti-oxidants. Today, some doctors are calling heart disease the early stage or mild form of scurvy.
Why High Mountain? Tea bushes in the higher elevations throw deeper roots to get water, which also gives them more minerals. They grow slower since it’s colder. This combination gives the leaves more flavour and nutritional value.

ROYAL BLEND Royal Blend is a superb blend of large leaf Ceylon black teas, with rose red colour, slight muscatel flavour, with associated darjeeling astringency, and the delicious aroma of Earl Grey. Truly fit for royalty.

PRINCE OF PERSIA TEA Prince of Persia is a blend of black teas from 4 different high mountain plantations (4000Ft and up) in Sri Lanka. Tip the bag horizontally and dig deep into the bag with a spoon each time you make tea.
